A Nintendo 3DS games pledged and more on the NES Classic Mini console make up this week's news
Nintendo 3DS games will continue to be produced even though the Nintendo Switch will be released in March.
There have been rumours that the new hybrid Switch console would likely replace both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
And it’s easy to see why, while the 3DS has sold a lot of units, the Switch looks set to cannibalise both of Nintendo’s console markets.
However, company president Tatsumi Kimishima has reaffirmed Nintendo’s dedication to the 3DS handhelds, telling investors they were not yet ready to walk away from the device.
“Thanks to our software, the 3DS hardware is still growing. So that business still has momentum,” he told Bloomberg.
“And certainly rather than being cannibalized by the Switch, we think the 3DS can continue in its own form.”
And talking about the reasoning behind trying to combine both markets, the Nintendo president added: “We didn't just want a successor to the Wii U or the 3DS.
“So our original concept was, "What kind of new experience can we create?" And what we showed this time was an object that's both stationary and one you can take outside to play with anyone you want.”

While the growth of the Nintendo 3DS games market appears set to continue, Nintendo also provided more news on their new range of Classic NES mini consoles.
The Nintendo Classic Mini NES has been one of the harder items to nab in the past months due to stock shortage encountered around the globe.
Nintendo apparently failed to note the huge fan interest building ahead of its initial launch.
Now Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed just how successful their palm-sized gaming machine has proved, selling a 1.5m units around the world.
Kimishima also apologised to those who have so far missed out on buying a NES Classic Edition, citing that certain parts are “hard to procure.”

He also revealed that gamer nostalgic interest in the Mini NES was also seen as an opportunity to increase the awareness surrounding the company’s next big launch, the Nintendo Switch.
“In November last year, we brought back the nostalgic Famicom and NES home consoles in palm sized versions and shipped the entire quantity of Nintendo Classic Mini Family Computer units we initially prepared for each market,” the Nintendo President confirmed at recent earnings event.
Kimishima also went on record to say that while there had been problems in the past, the future chances of buying a Nintendo NES was set to go up.
“We apologize to our consumers and retail partners for the inconvenience caused by product shortages. Some parts require time to procure, but we are working to increase production,” he added.
“We also see the nostalgic interest in these products as an opportunity to draw consumers’ attention to our latest game system, Nintendo Switch.”
