Jeremy Corbyn was mocked on Twitter for his

The 67-year-old Labour Leader – who was forced to quash rumours he will not resign after huge rifts started to appear in his own party – claimed the real fight for a fair Brexit “starts now”.

Corbyn tweeted: “Real fight starts now. Over next two years Labour will use every opportunity to ensure Brexit protects jobs, living standards & the economy.”

Minutes later, Sturgeon mocked his attempt to rally his supporters.

She tweeted: “How? You've just handed the Tories a blank cheque. You didn't win a single concession but still voted for the Bill. Pathetic.”

Twitter users also mocked the Islington North MP and questioned where his “fight” was in the run-up to EU Referendum last year.

Despite Corbyn implementing a three line whip on his 229 MPs, 52 MPs voted against their leader’s demands while another 13 abstained.

He faced a number of resignations from his Shadow Cabinet who refused to follow the party whip in voting with the Government to trigger Article 50, which will formally begin the Brexit process.

Clive Lewis, who became a Labour MP in 2015, stepped down as shadow business secretary, as he voted against triggering Brexit.

Senior Labour sources told the Telegraph that his resignation, which comes after 17 other front-benchers defied the Labour leader, has left Mr Corbyn increasingly "isolated".

Reports suggest Lewis – who has previously been praised by Corbyn – is among the frontrunners to become the next leader of the opposition.
