Fans have bombarded Nicky Hayden's Facebook page with tributes
The MotoGP legend’s supporters have taken to the web to share some of the most touching stories you will read about the man they adore.
Hundreds of fans have taken to Hayden’s official Facebook page, entitled “Nicky Hayden- The Kentucky Kid”.
And they have delivered a string of memories about times they met their idol.
Supporter Franco Zacco wrote: “We moved to Owensboro about 3 years ago. We were off loading our motorcycles from the moving van and the previous owner of the house saw them and asked us if we watched MotoGP. We said yes.
“Then they asked us if we knew who Nicky Hayden was. We said, of course. He then pointed to a house across the street from ours and said that's his house. I got to see him come and go once in awhile, but the most memorable was when I was heading home a block or two from my house on my CBR 1000RR and I saw an unassuming pick up truck passing by.
“The driver waved at me but it took me a second to realize it was Nicky himself. Maybe he waved at me because I was on a Honda, maybe because I was on a motorcycle, maybe because he was such a nice guy that he waves at everyone.

World Superbike champion Nicky Hayden has died after a tragic accident, aged 35
“I had a huge smile on my face the half block I had to go to my house. I lived across from a world champion and he was the most humble, sweet and dedicated guy. Ride on Nicky. You will be missed.”
Ant Faulkner shared a similar happy memory of the 2006 MotoGp champion.
He wrote: “I was fortunate enough to meet Nicky twice…both times at Silverstone "Day of Champions" where he was supporting the charity "Riders for Health".
“The first time I was wearing a 69 t shirt and my coveted Nicky special addition Tissot watch (present from my fiancee!). I waited for a photo and as he smiled for the camera he looked me dead in the eye and said "Hey man. Nice watch".
“Starstruck much? I had to be gently ushered away by my best mate to let someone else have a turn. Nicky seemed mildly amused by my temporary idiocy!
“The second time was at Day of Champions again. Nicky had moved to WSB at this time and I wasn't sure if he would be there. I was wandering thru the paddock and there's Nicky, just standing there in the sun. I walked up to him and said "Dude…you're here!?". And Nicky says "Course man…it's Day of Champions!", and gives me the biggest smile.
“Silly stories I know but this is how he was with fans. Genuine superstar, and I will miss him…”
Another fan, Mark Roberson, said: “I met Nicky at the Donnington park rnd of the 500cc class it was the thursday the charity day and I remember his smile and what stood out the most was he was totally happy to be with his supporters when other riders were hiding away. He spoke to me and my girlfriend and I will never forget that moment.”
The stories kept on coming with Jessica Proctor Willock writing: “My 7 year old twins are devastated (so am I). They put everything "Nicky" that we have on the fireplace, and we've been lighting a candle every night.
“I had the pleasure of meeting him once, but my kids never did. They have seen him race though. When we heard the news, my son and daughter both ran to put "The Doctor, Tornado, and Kentucky Kid" on. We watched it and all cried. I had a "cameo" and you can see me getting Rossi's autograph in that movie.

“Even though we didn't know Nicky on a personal level, we all have a big hole in our hearts. RIP Nicky. I hope you and Marco are racing each other wherever you are!”
While Kerstin Kummer added: “I met Nicky a few times on Sachsenring, and last year on Lausitzring.
On Lausitzring we're really lucky and got tickets with paddock access. So we're waiting every day oft the weekend in front of his box…. every time he came out of the box he has a smile on his face.
“So I asked him for a picture which he also has done with a absolutely stunning smile. On saterday afternoon there was a pitwalk event. There are so many fans at Nickys box I don't expect to make it to the box. But I don't know how but I was standing directly besides Nicky. So I think he remembered me from the days before or something….he stands up, comes to my side and asked me if we want to make a picture together. This was so absolutely overwhelming.
“But my buddy with the cam was no where to be seen. So I said, "no sorry, I have no cam". Nicky Hayden was asking me for a picture and I had so say no….
“But on the race sunday we where again waiting in front oft his box, he cam out and this time thankfully my buddy with the cam was on my side, I said to Nicky, "hey this time I got a cam…" He smiled, we make a picture together, then he hold his hand to me for a "bro-fist"
“That's one of my best memory of Nicky… and his absolutely contagious smile. You will be always in our hearts Champ.”
Hayden’s funeral is today and will be streamed live on Facebook.
