Newcastle want Sporting Lisbon defender Ruben Semedo
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is said to be a long-term admirer of the 23-year-old centre-half.
And according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Semedo is set to be subject of a £13million bid by newly-promoted Newcastle this summer.
Sporting Lisbon are reportedly looking to secure at least £17m to consider selling Semedo, who is also a target for French outfit Lille.
The Magpies appear to be leading the race for Semedo, with the defender said to prefer a move to England over France.
Ruben Semedo has made 48 appearances since making Sporting Lisbon debut in 2015
Semedo made his senior debut for Sporting two years ago and has gone on to make 48 appearances for the club, wining the 2015 Portuguese Super Cup in the process.
Benitez was last week linked with an audacious £39m move for midfielder William Carvalho, Semedo's team-mate at Sporting Lisbon.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley earlier this month revealed that "every penny" will be made available for Benitez to rebuild the squad this summer.

"I've confirmed to Rafa and [managing director Lee Charnley] that they can have every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season," Ashley said in a club statement.
The Toon have already secured their first signing of the summer, turning Christian Atsu's loan from Chelsea into a permanent deal for £6million.
