Installation 01

There's a new Halo game in development, but it won't be coming to Xbox One X.

Installation 01 is actually a fan-made Halo homage that's being developed for Windows PC, MacOS and Linux.

According to the official description, Installation 01 aims to recreate the multiplayer experience from the classic Bungie games.

Better yet, Installation 01 will be completely free to play.

And while fan projects have often been shut down by big publishers, it looks like Installation 01 might actually get the go ahead.

The makers of Installation 01 have spoken to 343 Industries about the game, and appear to have the studio's blessing.

Check out a selection of Installation 01 images in the gallery below…

The Installation 01 development team discussed the project in a new blog post, explaining that it wasn't in immediate danger of being shut down.

"As of right now, we’re in the clear," the post reads.

"According to 343 Industries, everything we have done to date has been fully within the bounds of those trusty Game Content Usage Rules.

"Installation 01, as a project, is not in immediate danger of legal repercussions if we carefully continue to do what we’ve been doing."

The impressive project should keep fans busy until 343 Industries releases the next major Halo sequel.

Unfortunately, however, that may be some time off, because 343 recently said that a sequel won't be discussed for quite some time.

"While there’s little to nothing that can be said on that front, it’s been made clear that we won’t be talking about Halo’s next major title for quite some time," reads a 343 Industries blog post.

"And no, that doesn’t mean Gamescom. Or PAX. Trust us, when we’re ready to begin pulling back that proverbial curtain, you’ll know. It won’t be soon."

There were rumours of a Halo reveal taking place during the Microsoft conference at E3 2017.

343 had said that something would be announced, but it turned out to be an expansion for Halo Wars 2.
