The new Nokia 3310 release date marks a larger nostalgic trend in technology
Tamagotchi is back.
The Japanese virtual pet is back – revived some 20 years after it first took the UK by storm.
Toy company Bandai is behind the relaunch of the 1996 egg-shaped gadget.
Tamagotchi will be re-released in six colours.
The toy will boast all of the same functionality that made it such a hit in the 1990s.
Tamagotchi is making a comeback, following a growing trend for nostalgia
Tamagotchi were the must-have item for children in the 90s and were a common sight in the playground.
Kids would have to look after the “pet” on the black-and-white display throughout the day, including feeding it, letting it sleep and cleaning up its mess.
And schools were less than impressed with lessons being interrupted as pupils surreptitiously fed them in class.
It remains to be seen whether the tech-savvy new generation will be as enthralled with Tamagotchi.
But don’t be surprised to see a clutch of nostalgic adults take a trip back in time and buy one, only for it to die repeatedly.

Unfortunately, there's no word yet on an official UK release date but it is possible to buy the gadget on Amazon Japan for about £17.
The Tamagotchi revival marks yet another nostalgic return – a growing trend in technology – that has included Nokia announcing a re-imagined Nokia 3310 and Nintendo seeing a surge of demand for its revamped Classic Mini NES.
