Dee (played by Madeline West) made a shock return to Ramsay Street this week, equipped with a beaming smile as if she’d simply vanished on a long getaway. Of course, her tale was actually one filled with drama, death and a secret child.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Ryan, 36, admitted that filming the explosive ordeal took its toll on not only the love-torn Toadie, but the actor took his alter-ego’s emotional baggage home with him.
“You can’t help [but take it with you],” he explained. “Acting is feeling what you’re meant to feel. If you see me being upset, you genuinely see me being upset so it does have an affect even if you’re trying not to.”
The soap legend also voiced concerns over Dee’s return, which is understandable when Toadie’s wife was hurled off a cliff and subsequently vanished for the best part of 14 years.

“Initially I thought, ‘Oh no! I hope this doesn’t come across as really cheesy and bit eggy,” he chuckled. “But when the script department wrote what they wrote, I thought, ‘This is going to be good. This is going to be an absolute disaster, this is going to be great.’
“Then I was kind of going, ‘This is going to be hard work, being upset and all the emotions you have to through,’ but also excitement and going, ‘Let's give it a shot and see what we can do'."
Thankfully, Dee’s resurrection has proven to be a triumph among fans and is set to cause enormous ripples among the residents of Erinsborough for months to come.

Toadie will have a mental breakdown over Dee's resurrection in Neighbours
However, her sudden arrival has been cast with doubt from several skeptics, most notably Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor), who had several suspicions surrounding Dee’s washed up on a lonesome beach story, particularly as Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) also managed to survive alarmingly similar circumstances.
So much so, that the burly policeman has launched an investigation into Dee’s disappearance after authorities searched every inch of the Australian coastline for miles around but found nothing.
What’s more, Toadie will be thrown another bombshell as he comes face-to-face with his secret daughter Willow, who also miraculously survived plummeting off a cliff edge.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
