Hoffman strung together six birdies on the back nine yesterday and will go off at 3.01pm BST alongside England's Chris Wood and Japan's Yuta Ikeda.
William McGirt meanwhile, having shot 69 on his first effort round Augusta, will be in the very first group, hoping to avoid the worst of the wind with his early slot.
As usual, the final groups are chock full of big names with Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose all going off in the last three tee-times, the latest group starting at 7.03pm UK time.
Charley Hoffman and Lee Westwood were both in strong positions after Day 1
Masters Day 2 live updates
1.30pm BST: The early tee-time should suit McGirt but it isn't proving as much so far.
The received wisdom is that the wind gets stronger as the day goes on so if the American can get round without too much trouble, he could see the field drift backwards as Friday goes on.
It's not a great start though as he misses the first fairway, the first green and can't make his 15-foot par putt.
Hoffman's lead just got bigger and he's probably still in bed.
1pm BST: It's not very warm but it is at least sunny in Augusta today.
But the bad news for the golfers is it is quite breeze and the wind is expected to stiffen.
William McGirt is out with Rod Pampling in the first group.
McGirt has only played one round of competitive golf at Augusta before – yesterday – and the 37-year-old signed for a 69, one of only two players to break 70.
