Mesut Ozil has been in fabulous form for Arsenal this season, firing home nine goals in all competitions.
However, the German midfield maestro has come under heavy criticism for going missing in the big games.
Most recently, the 28-year-old failed to track back sufficiently during the Gunners' 3-1 defeat to Chelsea 10 days ago.
And Keown thinks Ozil needs to pull his weight more.
"He's a sort of icing-on-the-cake type player," Keown said.

"Arsenal need more from him, particularly from a defensive point of view.
"You could say he's in there for his creativity but the likes of Bergkamp, Henry, Pires – they offered creativity but they offered just as much work rate.
"A modern day player has to be equipped to do both and I don't know that Arsenal get enough from Ozil when they don't have the ball.
"Maybe I'm being unfair, it can be difficult to recover back, but you see other players doing that. His body language is an issue and he's suffered lately, particularly in the big games."
Arsenal, who are fourth in the table, face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie tomorrow (7.45pm).
