Mourinho has been forced to call on Daley Blind and Michael Carrick to provide cover in defence this season, while Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have all had spells out through injury.
And a move to United this summer is being backed by Betfair at 4/1.

Kylian Mbappe – 6/1
United have also been credited with an interest in Monaco's teenage sensation Mbappe, who has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough campaign at the French club.
He's scored 19 goals across all competitions this season to help Monaco to the top of Ligue 1 and was rewarded with his France debut on Saturday.
And the 18-year-old hitman, who has also been linked with La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, is priced at 6/1 to join United.
Jose Mourinho could have Old Trafford reunion with Romelu Lukaku
Romelu Lukaku 8/1
Another striker on United's radar is Everton's Lukaku, who tops the Premier League scoring charts this season with 21 goals to his name already.
The Belgium international recently rejected the chance to become Everton's highest-ever paid player before revealing his intention to join a Champions League club.
Mourinho sold Lukaku to Everton during his time at Chelsea, and a reunion at Old Trafford can be backed at 8/1 with Betfair.
Danny Rose could replace Luke Shaw at Manchester United
Danny Rose 9/1
United are reportedly in the market for a new left-back this summer, with Luke Shaw having fallen out of favour since Mourinho's arrival.
Tottenham's Rose, who has emerged as one of the Premier League's top full-backs over the past couple of seasons, is said to be high up on United's shortlist to replace Shaw.
And the England international is at odds of 9/1 to join the Red Devils this summer.
