Liverpool target Naby Keita is also wanted at Manchester United
Liverpool are desperate to sign Keita and have already had bids for the RB Leipzig star rejected.
The Reds are expected to launch a £65million offer this week.
But Football Whispers claim an insider on the player is aware of United’s interest.
According to the sensational report, United manager Jose Mourinho is seeking a midfielder.
And Keita is on the Portugal boss’ list of candidates to come into the side.
The likelihood of Liverpool letting slip their top target to a rival such as United is slim.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has been chasing the 22-year-old for weeks and has already agreed to offload Lucas onto Lazio to free up space in the side.
Keita enjoyed a stand-out season at Leipzig last term and Liverpool’s initial £57m bid for the Guinean was rejected.
Football Whispers add that he remains interested in Liverpool but that a bid from United, especially with their financial muscle, could tip the balance in the Red Devils’ favour.
“In his mind, the only possible destination for next season is Liverpool,” the source told the website.
United have already frustrated another title rival in the transfer window, having beaten Chelsea’s to Romelu Lukaku’s signature.
Lukaku appeared set on rejoining the Blues before completing his £75m switch to United from Everton.
