Wayne Rooney will be staying at Manchester United at least until the end of the season
A move to the Far East is still a possibility in the summer if Wayne Rooney decides to bring the down the curtain on his Manchester United career after 13 years – but he will heed the experience of former team-mate Carlos Tevez.
Reports in Argentina claim that Tevez has struggled to settle in China and wants to return to Boca Juniors just three months after joining Shanghai Shenhua for an eye-watering weekly wage of £615,000.
Jose Mourinho does not want to risk depleting his squad any further this season
Tevez has so far made one appearance, in Shanghai's 2-0 defeat by Brisbane Roar in the AFC Champions League this month.
Rooney is frustrated at no longer being a regular starter at United and may well fall further down the order if Jose Mourinho, whose side progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League after beating St Etienne 4-0 on aggregate, signs his top target Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer.
But it is understood there is no animosity between him and Mourinho and with 18 months left on his contract – and a further year's option – he is in no rush to leave, especially with United still chasing honours on four fronts and the prospect of adding to his medal haul.

Who could replace Wayne Rooney if he left Manchester United
With so many games still to play this season, Mourinho, for his part, does not want to deplete his squad in case of injuries to leading scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic or any of his other strikers and still believes Rooney, United's all-time record goalscorer, can make a valuable contribution.
Rooney, 32 in October, will assess his options in the summer when he will have to weigh up whether the £50million a year contract offers on the table from Beijing Guoan and Guangzhou Evergrande would compensate for uprooting his young family and effectively ending his England career.
He missed United's Europa League win in St Etienne tonight but could be on the bench for Sunday's League Cup final against Southampton at Wembley.
