Rooney rose through the ranks at Everton, scoring 15 goals in 67 appearances before his £25million move to Old Trafford in 2004.
A Paddy Power spokesman said: “To some, it’d seem like a shock move, but it can’t be that much of a surprise that Rooney is fond of a Chinese takeaway.
“The obvious question mark is how he’d cope with being unable to speak the language, but that’s never really held him back over here.”
