Carrick has been indispensable for Manchester United this season and grown in stature since he joined 11 years ago from Tottenham for a fee of £18million.
Although he was left on the bench for the 2-0 win over Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday, United didn’t lose when he started games.
The 35-year-old reacted to the news of his deal, as he said: “What a fantastic way to finish off the season, with a new trophy in our cabinet.
