The 21-year-old was left out of last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Stoke after Sevilla were said to be keen on taking him on loan.

That apparently left the United forward upset as Mourinho simply decided to just not select Martial.

But with the squad looking thin after recent departures, Martial is set to play in the EFL Cup semi-final at Hull tomorrow (7.45pm).

United are in a strong position heading into the second leg at the KCOM Stadium, leading the tie 2-0 on aggregate.

Martial was a second-half substitute in the first leg at Old Trafford and is expected to feature again.

Following Memphis Depay’s £16million sale to Lyon, Jose Mourinho does not wish to lose other star attackers.

Who will Jose Mourinho start against Hull in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg?

Memphis Depay LyonGETTY

Memphis Depay's move to Lyon has left Jose Mourinho somewhat short in his Manchester United squad

Ashley Young is the only one who could still depart with a move to China possible.

Interest has also been shown from Premier League sides, with a permanent exit much preferred by Manchester United to a loan.

Martial will subsequently continue to battle for a place in Mourinho’s team alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the front line.
