Rooney, 31, became Manchester United’s all-time top scorer yesterday when he bagged his 250th goal in the 1-1 draw at Stoke.

The England captain currently earns £300,000 a week and has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Manchester United fans mock Olivier Giroud as Wayne Rooney refuses to celebrate following his record-breaking equaliser against Stoke City

And The Sun claim a deal from China is on the table.

According to the report, Rooney could become the first footballer to earn over £1m a week.

A source told The Sun: “He would probably sign a two-year deal in China and will earn more in that time than he has done during the whole of his United career.

“It will be a big wrench for him and Coleen and their boys because they are very settled in Cheshire and Coleen in particular is very close to her family. The boys are happy at school.

Rooney's goal in the last minute of stoppage time earned United a point at Stoke

“But they both know a footballer’s career is a short one and it would be silly for Wayne not to maximise his earning potential, especially as he's approaching the latter stages of his career.”

United are unlikely to match Rooney’s current wages if they push for him to sign a new deal before the summer of 2019.
