Madonna is adopting twins from Malawi according to the courts
The 58-year-old singer attended the High Court in the country's capital Lilongwe on Wednesday to apply for custody of the children, who have resided at the same orphanage for the past two years, according to MailOnline.
The Vogue hitmaker previously blasted claims that she was beginning the adoption process as "not true".
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, judicial spokesman Mlenga Mvula explained: "We have no time to be lying to the general public when they know the truth of the matter.

We have the file, we have everything, we have all the documentation.
"We have the file, we have everything, we have all the documentation and the matter will be determined by the judge soon. If the court grants her an adoption order, she will have the twins this time around."
Madonna will now have to wait up to three weeks before hearing if Justice Fiona Mwale approves the application.
Meanwhile, Lucy Bandazi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, has told MailOnline: "Madonna has lodged an application with the High Court to adopt two girls. They are aged four years old.
"All the necessary paper work is before the High Court and they will make the ultimate decision if the adoption can go ahead."

She added: "We will look at her financial situation and her social situation. There will be a lot of factors that are taken into consideration. Just because she is famous, it does not mean procedures will be overlooked."
The revelation comes after Madonna claimed she was in Malawi "to check on the children's hospital in Blantyre" and to focus on her "other work" with charity Raising Malawi.
Completely shutting down any suggestion of adoption, she continued: "The rumours of an adoption process are untrue."
Madonna is already the mother of children Lourdes, 20, and Rocco, 16, as well as David Banda, 11, who she adopted from Malawi in 2006, and Mercy James, 11, who she adopted in the country three years later.
