The M6 has been closed near Stafford after the crash early this morning
Staffordshire Police said the officers, from the Central Motorway Police Group, were hurt in the collision in the early hours of this morning.
Their vehicle collided with a Citroen Berlingo van at around 3.45am, with the pair taken to a nearby hospital soon after.
The southbound carriageway of the motorway was closed between junction 13 at Stafford and junction 12 near Cannock after the incident.
A police spokesman said: "Both male officers have been taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment to various injuries.
"Their conditions are described as serious but stable. The male driver of the Berlingo was treated at the scene.
"As a result of the collision, the stretch of motorway will be closed whilst a forensic examination of the scene takes place. Traffic is being diverted through Stafford."

Motorists were being advised to seek an alternative route and Staffordshire Police's Performance Assessment Unit has been informed of the incident.
