The diesel spillage is causing massive tailbacks near Stansted Airport
A van overturned and leaked diesel along the northbound carriageway after colliding with another vehicle, causing huge tailbacks.
Police and recovery vehicles are currently trying to remove the stricken vehicle and there is one casualty, according to officers at the scene.
Tarmac often needs to be completely re-layed after a diesel spillage because of the risk of it igniting, so motorists could be stuck in their cars for several hours, potentially missing their flights.

Tailbacks are lasting for several miles with the worst of the gridlock between Junction 7 London Road and Junction 8.
To get to Stansted Airport motorits have to exit at Junction 8, meaning many people are at risk of missing their flights.
A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Epping, Old Harlow and Harlow attended a road traffic collision between junction 7 and junction 8 of the M11 at 6.50 this morning.
"On arrival firefighters reported that one van was overturned and there was one casualty.
"Crews made the scene safe by 7.45am and left the casualty in the care of the Ambulance Service."
