His displays helped the Reds pip Arsenal to fourth spot to put them in with a chance of securing Champions League football next season, with a play-off match in August set to decide their fate.
The Germany international looks set to go into the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.
But doubt has been cast over his future at the club with their being no indication of him signing a contract extension.

Juventus have made an initial approach to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.
And Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims Juventus are keen to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding his future.
The Serie A champions have apparently made initial contact with Can’s agent as they look to bolster their midfield ranks ahead of next season.
However, they will face a fight on their hands with Jurgen Klopp keen for the midfielder to sign a new deal and remain at Liverpool.
“It’s no secret how much I like Emre. He likes the club," Klopp said last month.
