The Reds defender admitted belief had taken a knock at Anfield during January when they managed just one win in nine matches in all competitions.
But after the boost of a hard-fought draw with league leaders Chelsea, Matip warned that struggling Hull City could see a very different outfit on Saturday.
“Every player needs a positive experience or to get positive things from a game but I think today was a good step to get some of the self-confidence back,” said Matip.

“It has not been easy [during January] but we have to keep going because we cannot change the past. We have to do everything we can do to change things in the future.”
Liverpool started and finished the day 10 points behind Chelsea in fourth place and could see Manchester City relegate them to fifth in the table tonight.
But Matip maintained that supporters should keep the faith now Liverpool have stopped the rot.
