The pair previously worked together at Dortmund, and it is suggested a move could be funded by selling Daniel Sturridge.
Liverpool have reportedly been joined by Arsenal in the race to sign Joe Hart.
The Gunners are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, with plans to use Petr Cech as a back-up.
Klopp was unable to sign Hart last month, as the England international had already played for Manchester City and Torino.
However, the Daily Mail claim City will put Hart up for sale and he could be available for £15m.
