The Reds face title-chasing Tottenham still looking for a first league win in five attempts in 2017 and having seen the flow of goals slow to a trickle.
But Rush believes the striker remains their best bet to spark their stuttering season into life and says Klopp is still the man to lead them out of their slump.
“Daniel Sturridge is probably the most gifted striker we have and I was made up that he didn’t leave in January. I hope he is still here next year,” said Rush.
Ian Rush hopes Daniel Sturridge will not be sold in January
Ian Rush believes Daniel Sturridge is the most gifted striker in Liverpool's squad
“But you have to fight for your place. He will but one thing for certain this year is that we will need Sturridge and once he gets that chance he has to take it. When he does and starts scoring again he’ll play a major part in Liverpool making the top four.”
Jurgen Klopp has given Sturridge just five league starts this season and such limited opportunity has left him without a goal in seven since his last, against Sunderland at Anfield on January 2.
But Rush said: “Tottenham are one of the few clubs who come to Anfield and try to win. A lot of clubs come and just try to park the bus and that is what Liverpool sometimes find hard to break down.

“Tottenham, because they have so many great players, will try to win the game and I think that will play to Liverpool’s [strengths].
“Against the top clubs [Liverpool] have a good record and I am certain on Saturday it will be the game to get them back on track. Liverpool do need to start winning and it is a great game for them to get up and running again.”
Rush was the latest former Liverpool player to throw his weight behind Klopp after his side have hit the buffers in January following words of support from Gary McAllister this week.
Jurgen Klopp can bring success back to Liverpool, according to Rush
“Jurgen Klopp is definitely the man to bring success to Anfield, there is no doubt about that,” said Rush, speaking to promote the chance to win £3Million for just £1 on The Football Pools.
“Nothing has gone wrong, it is just what happens, people have blips and Liverpool had a blip in January and there is a long way to go. One hundred per cent in my opinion he is the man for the job.
“OK, they’re not going to win a trophy this season but there is still a chance for them to make the top four so if they can do that it would be a success.”
