Shane Long struck late as Southampton booked their place in the EFL Cup final
Southampton, who were one up after last-week's first-leg, started well when Steven Davis struck form 20-yards, but James Milner managed to block when the ball seemed to be heading into the corner.
The Saints should have taken the lead when Nathan Redmond ran through Liverpool’s defence and squared to Dusan Tadic, but the midfielder couldn’t steer the ball past Loris Karius.
Daniel Sturridge had a number of chances for Liverpool
Redmond was continuing to cause the Reds problems and he next produced a fine ball for Davis, but the Saints captain fired over the bar.
After the break Liverpool almost took the lead when Emre Can hammered a shot in from 25 yards and Fraser Forster let the ball slip through his grasp, but the goalkeeper was somehow able to turn and claw the ball away from goal.
The Reds should have gone ahead when Milner crossed for Daniel Sturridge, but the striker somehow put the ball over the bar from seven yards out.

Sturridge went close again when he volleyed Jordan Henderson’s through ball, but again the ball went well over.
Jurgen Klopp's side continued to press, but were still struggling in the final third.
And Southampton made the Reds pay for their poor finishing when Shane Long struck in the 90th minute to seal victory and earn the Saints a trip to Wembley next month.
