Messi's contract at the Nou Camp expires at the end of next season and there continues to be speculation surrounding his future.
Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Messi's situation, with Barca said to be struggling to thrash out a new deal.
The Red Devils signed Paul Pogba from Juventus for a world-record £89million fee last summer and Jose Mourinho is keen to add more marquee signings to his squad.
While City are reportedly willing to pay around £100m for Pep Guardiola to link up with Messi again at the Etihad Stadium.

Lionel Messi set to remain at Barcelona
Messi was quoted as telling Coach magazine he would remain at Barca for "as long as they want me" in response to a question about a Premier League move – but the Spanish publication were forced to remove the interview after his management team claimed it had never taken place.
And now Messi's father Jorge has cleared up the situation, insisting his son has no interest of leaving the Catalan giants.
"There is no danger that Messi will leave Barcelona," he told Spanish radio station Cadena SER.
Messi's former team-mate Xavi is also confident the Argentina captain will resist any big-money away from Barca.

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola reportedly interested in Lionel Messi
"I have no doubt that Messi will sign a new contract with Barcelona – no doubt at all," Xavi told Fox Sports earlier this week.
"There will always be noise when it comes to Messi – he is the best player in the world people will always want to write about him.
"But there is often noise without any truth.
"Over the years there is no doubt that he would have had the chance to earn more money with clubs who have billionaire owners, but his heart is with Barcelona.
"It is a love affair between him and Barcelona – and a relationship that I see continuing for many years yet."
