Rosberg announced his shock retirement just days after securing his maiden F1 World Drivers’ Championship last year, having beaten Hamilton out in the final race in Abu Dhabi.
He was replaced by Valtteri Bottas, who now sits third in the drivers’ standings behind Hamilton and leader Sebastian Vettel.
The Brit cut his rival’s lead to just one point yesterday with his fifth British Grand Prix victory.
The 32-year-old now has 57 race wins to his name and is chasing a fourth world title, but revealed in the wake of his Silverstone triumph that he can see himself packing it all in when the season finishes.

“I can’t really say what is going to happen six months from now, except to say I am loving racing,” Hamilton said.
“I don’t know what is going to happen.
“I love driving and you could say it’s unlikely [I would retire], but you can’t say what frame of mind I will be in at Christmas.
“Hopefully, it will be really good.

“Even getting another championship, it won’t be a case of hanging up my gloves.
“I will always want to get more.”
However, he did admit that in his current state – post-victory euphoria – the idea of giving up his profession seemed a long way off.
“I come back to my room [after a race like Silverstone] and I feel proud,” Hamilton added.
“When you set a goal and succeed and have this belief inside of you, it is such a great feeling.
“I don’t know why I drive as I do but I just feel blessed that I do. The happiest I am, except when I am with my family, is when I have the car under me.
“I don’t think any driver gets such energy from the fans. It lifts you up.
“From the start, I could see the crowd and every time I looked from the corner of my eye I could see everyone standing up cheering – every single lap, everyone standing and cheering.
“I feel that is them egging me on and you don’t see that anywhere else in the world.”
