The welterweight insists he “will be back” after losing his IBF title to American Errol Spence Jnr after being stopped in the 11th round at Bramall Lane on Saturday.
But Brook’s left eye socket was fractured in the cracker and now faces gruelling surgery to repair the problem just months after he had the same op on his right orbital bone following defeat by Gennady Golovkin.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “The injury is the only thing [that casts doubt over his future] but I don’t think he’s going to want to retire.
“If he’d have lost on points he’d be here saying, ‘I’m moving up in weight and win world titles’. But now he is thinking ‘I’ve got to go have that done again’.

“The eye surgeon said after the fight – his name is Muhammad Ali funnily enough – the right eye will be fine because there is a titanium plate in there and we will have to put another one in the left one. Iron Man is coming.”
The eye surgery Brook had following his defeat by middleweight champion Golovkin last September includes removing the eye to reset the bone and then having a titanium plate inserted.
It takes months of recovery and Brook even admitted that his eye was not as alert until he was deep into camp preparing for Spence.
He will also have to be cleared by the British Boxing Board of Control after two serious eye injuries in back-to-back fights.

Brook said: “They kept me in hospital till 3am where I had a CT scan on my eye. The eye is broken again. I need surgery again and I’m devastated.
“I remember the surgeon saying to me if I had gone on another round against Golovkin I could have been blinded, I had that going through my mind in the 11th round.
“I ended up thinking I live to fight on another day. I will be back and I will be back a long stronger and better.”
