Kate gave her husband Prince William a ‘high five’ as they lined up to take on Prince Harry

The royal trio went head to head in the first leg of the race, which was in support of their mental health charity Heads Together.

Kate, who wore a red puffer jacket and black jeans, tied her hair back on the start line as William joked: “Oh my hamstring!”.

Despite her efforts, Kate, 35, lost out to her brother in-law who came in first followed by William who came second thanks to the encouragement of well-wishers at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London.

William and Kate laughed and hugged on the finish line, while Harry patted his brother on the back.

They had turned out to support a training day for runners taking part in this year’s London Marathon.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Stewards Academy in Harlow, Essex, to promote their Heads Together campaign.

Each royal had a team of runners in the relay, which included athlete Paul Radcliffe.

In a speech, William joked he was “the only elite athlete runner between the three of us [royals] to say a few words”.
