Klopp has backed away from making big-name signings in the January transfer window.
Liverpool hosted Chelsea last night in a crunch clash in the title race.
And former Arsenal star Nicholas says Klopp has made a mistake in his transfer dealings.
“I don’t understand it, I really don’t,” Nicholas said on Sky Sports.

Football Whispers have rated Liverpool's chances in the transfer market
“They could have made a statement because the youngsters they’ve coming through – put them in fine.
“You’ve a right-back, a couple of midfield players and a couple of forwards. Where’s the left-back?
“James Milner is suddenly playing at left-back. He’s not a left-back.
“I’ve said all along he’s a fantastic football, dead consistent, never ever wavers. But he’s not a left-back.
“You’re playing against someone and you don’t have good enough quality defensively.
“With the goalkeepers (Simon) Mignolet deserves to be No 1 because of the mistakes (Loris) Karius has made.
“(Klopp) has two centre-backs coming in tonight which is better as they have a bit of speed. But they should have got another centre-back in to protect them.
“Whether (Mamadou) Sakho goes or not isn’t the issue as he was never going to be part of it.
“They needed another centre-back and a left-back. I’m very surprised.”
