Tracy Brabin succeeded murdered MP Jo Cox
Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin paid tribute to her late predecessor, who was murdered by constituent Thomas Mair outside her office a week before the referendum last June.
But despite emotions running high, she also used her three-minutes in the limelight to outline her stance on the issue and labour’s three-line whip.
And she revealed she would be voting in favour of triggering Article 50 as per her constituents wishes

Ms Brabin paid an emotional tribute to the late Jo Cox
Discussing a meeting with her local Labour party ahead of today’s debate, Ms Brabin said: “Many had spent months knocking on doors alongside Jo Cox advocating the people should vote remain, whilst others in the room voted another way.
“I too voted to remain. And as I spoke and listened to my friends and colleagues, it was difficult and occasionally emotional as I explained why I felt it was my duty to respect democracy and vote in favour of triggering Article 50.
“Batley and Spen voted 63 per cent to leave. The people have spoken. And I must listen.

Becoming choked up half way through her speech, Ms Brabin gave way to Mary Creagh who paid tribute to Mrs Cox who campaigned to remain before her death

She said: “Jo Cox and her family in our thoughts as we take this vote on the referendum tonight.”
Many social media users following the debate tweeted praise for the new MP for her speech, also paying tribute to Jo Cox.
