Rabbi Yosef Berger, of King David’s Tomb on Mount Zion explained that when the Messiah comes, he will be accompanied by “one or several stars”.

The Jewish prophecy falls in line with astronomers' predictions that the Red Nova – a new blaze of light that will be the brightest object in the sky visible to the naked eye for at least six months – will appear after two faint stars collide in the night sky, creating a dazzling display.

Rabbi Berger said to an Israeli news site: “The Rambam [the ancient Rabbi Moses ben Maimon] brings this verse about a star appearing as proof that the Messiah will come one day.

“The Zohar [the foundational work in Jewish literature] states explicitly that the Messianic process will be accompanied by several stars appearing.

“It goes into great depth, describing how many stars, and which colours they will be.”

Astronomer Larry Molnar, of Calvin College, set out his prediction during an American Astronomical Society meeting in Texas and explained that the stars, located some 1,800 light years away have already exploded, so they will reach earth by 2022.

Professor Molnar said to RT America: “This is not a birth of a star by normal means. This is starting with two, already existing, stars and as they’ve evolved over time the two stars have come close to each other.

Solar storms: Sun's solar flares light up space
Tue, November 29, 2016

A solar flare is an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots. Flares are our solar system's largest explosive events. They are seen as bright areas on the sun and last from mere minutes to several hours.

“They are so close they are touching each other. The new star is – we expect in the next five years – when the two merge together forming just one.

“These explosions are dramatic explosions, with stars getting 10,000-times brighter."

Ira Machefsky, an Israeli amateur astronomer said the “phenomena is a manifestation of God’s intellect”. He added: “God works through nature, and astronomy and astrology are prominent in Jewish mysticism.”

The Biblical verse that coincides with the ancient Jewish literature is found in Numbers 24:17, which states: “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh; there shall step forth a star out of Yakov, and a scepter shall rise out of Yisrael, and shall smite through the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of Seth.”

Excited by prediction, Matt Walhout, a dean at Calvin College said in a press statement: “If the prediction is correct, then for the first time in history, parents will be able to point to a dark spot in the sky and say, ‘Watch, kids, there’s a star hiding in there, but soon it’s going to light up!”
