The US President had long promised to “repeal and replace” Obamacare yet his own American Health Care Act failed to even reach the House due to lack of support.
The Republican firebrand now looks set to follow through on previous threats of letting the Affordable Care Act – dubbed Obamacare – of letting insurance costs spiral out of control.
But while he has previously said he “couldn’t do that” to the American people, President Trump has claimed the Democrats now “own Obamacare” and will be forced to cut a deal with the Republicans if it fails.
The President said: “As you know, I’ve been saying for years that the best thing is to let Obamacare explode and then go make a deal with the Democrats and have one unified deal.

“And they will come to us, we won’t have to come to them.
“The beauty is that they own Obamacare. So when it explodes, they come to us, and we make one beautiful deal for the people.”
He added: “I’ll fix it as it explodes. They’re going to come to ask for help.
“They’re going to have to. Here’s the good news: Health care is now totally the property of the Democrats.”

The bill was pulled from the House floor after hours of debate
House Speaker Paul Ryan sensationally cancelled the vote for a second time today after it was made clear the President had not secure the required 215 votes.
The bill was pulled from the House floor after hours of debate and just minutes before the vote was due to take place – despite Mr Trump issuing an ultimatum over the vote on Friday.
Paul Ryan claimed that Republicans “didn’t get the consensus today”, so he and the President believed it was “the wise thing to do not to proceed with the vote.”
Mr Trump added: “The losers are [Democrat leaders] Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, because now they own Obamacare. They own it. One hundred per cent own it.

resident Trump has claimed the Democrats now 'own Obamacare'
“They have Obamacare for a little while longer until it ceases to exist, which it will at some point in the near future.
“And just remember this is not our bill. This is their bill.
“Now when they all become civilised and get together and try to work out a great health care bill for the people of this country, we're open to it.”
It is unclear if the President would have been able to pass the bill with minority Democrat support, with inside sources claiming at least three dozen of Mr Trump’s own party members were ready to vote the American Health Care Act down if it reached the House floor.
