Conor McGregor has followed Floyd Mayweather's example by creating his own promotional company
Conor McGregor is a double UFC champion after beating Eddie Alvarez to the lightweight title back in November.
The Irishman has not fought since but having obtained a boxing licence in California, McGregor is now talking up the possibility of taking on Mayweather.
However, UFC chief Dana White claims he is the only man who make the fight happen since he owns McGregor's contract.

When McGregor travels for fights, he always needs to carry a passport for his shoes as certain states restrict certain materials. His favourite pair are made from crocodile skin
But the fighter believes he is protected by the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act and can therefore fight in other sports without the say-so of UFC.
“I believe I can make this fight without the UFC, but I think it’s smoother if we’re all involved," McGregor said.
"Everyone’s got to know their place.
"There’s Mayweather promotions, there’s the UFC and now there’s the newly-formed McGregor Promotions!

“If they let people fight in jiu-jitsu tournaments, they can let me box."
The other sticking point is the amount of money each fighter would be paid, with Mayweather casting aspersions on McGregor's earning potential.

The American boxer claims his MMA counterpart cannot command the $100million (£80million) he has said he wants given that his net worth is closer to $20m (£16m).
But the 28-year-old appears confident that the bout could be the biggest in history.
"Right now, there’s something humongous that needs to be done and it doesn’t really involve [UFC], even though they think it does," McGregor added.
