Scott Dixon heads the grid followed by Ed Carpenter and last year’s winner Alexander Rossi on row 1.
Fernando Alonso, who’s missing the Monaco Grand Prix to race in this year’s Indy 500, will start on the second row in fifth.
Grid positions in Indy 500 are determined by average speed over four laps.
Rookie Alonso managed 231.300mph despite being affected on both lap two and three of qualifying.
While Dixon took pole after clocking an average speed of 232.164mph.
Brit Max Chilton will start from the fifth row, having qualified in 15th after setting an average speed of 230.068mph.
