A bomb squad has been called in
US Capitol police are investigating the package discovered on H Street, between 14th and 15th street NW, just minutes away from the White House.
They have closed off the roads nearby in a bid to examine it further.

D.C. police tweeted about the road closures at about 1:30 p.m.
However, at 3.35pm local time, police said that the street had been re-opened with incident.

The bomb scare comes just hours before president elect Donald Trump is sworn in as America's new president.
Security is tight around Washington D.C. as the first wave of people arrive in the city for the inauguration tomorrow.
Barricades have been erected around Capitol buildngs and traffc has ground to a halt in downtown Washington.

On the trains, five metro stops have been closed including – Mount Vernon square, Archives, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian and the Pentagon.
