Will Zoe Barnes return in House of Cards season 5?
Fans went into overdrive after the official House of Cards Twitter account posted a GIF of Zoe Barnes, who was brutally murdered by Frank Underwood in season two.
The image shows Zoe smiling knowingly with a phone held to her ear while looking out of a car window.
Fans were quick to speculate about what the post could mean, with many taking it to mean that Zoe will be alive in season five and others guessing that she might have a twin sister.
However, the post was captioned “Chapter 4” and the GIF is a clip from the fourth ever episode of the series, also named “Chapter 4”.
Netflix bosses appear to simply be taking a nostalgia trip, as they have posted similar clips from the first three episodes of season one.
Although Zoe made a brief reappearance as a hallucination in season four, it seems unlikely that she will make a full-time return to the show.
Since leaving, actress Kate Mara has become a bonafide Hollywood superstar, appearing in films such as The Martian and Fantastic Four.

What happened to Zoe Barnes?
Zoe was the viewers’ entry point to the series when it first began in 2003.
The intrepid reporter was a Washington outsider, who embarked on an affair with Frank in order to get the latest political scoops and advance her fledgling career.
Frank also benefited from the relationship because he used Zoe to spin the stories he wanted in the press.

But after Peter Russo’s apparent suicide, Zoe became suspicious and began investigating what had really happened.
She correctly deduced that Frank was responsible for Russo’s murder, but in the season two premiere she was pushed to her death on a train platform by the corrupt politician.
Zoe’s death came as a shock, as she had featured heavily in the season two trailer and in promotional materials.

But Kate revealed that executive producer David Fincher told her of Zoe’s fate during their very first meeting.
She said: “The reason I was so excited to be a part of it — and I wasn’t bummed about it — was because I thought it was such a ballsy move to do it on the very first episode of the second season, and not do it halfway through, or [in] the last episode of the second season.
“So I thought Beau [Willimon, the show‘s creator] did such a great job in coming up with that whole thing. And I know the way she goes was really thought out, and it took a very long time to decide what the best way would be.”
