Rumours claim that actor Kevin Spacey is ready to walk away from the Netflix series following the exit of its creator Beau Willimon, who he has called “an extraordinary collaborator”.
His character Frank survived an assassination attempt in season four, but some have predicted that he will be killed off in the new run of episodes.
It is thought that Frank’s wife Claire (Robin Wright) could become the show’s new lead after she took on an even greater role in season four – becoming Frank’s running mate and breaking the fourth wall for the first time in the series.
Behind the scenes, Wright directed four of the season’s 13 episodes, and brokered a deal to receive pay equal to Spacey’s.
In the original House of Cards trilogy, which aired on the BBC in the 1990s, Frank was killed by a sniper on his wife’s orders.
While the Netflix adaptation has deviated from its source material, some believe that it could return to this storyline.

Others have think that Claire, who has become as ruthless as her husband, could kill Frank by her own hand.
Mahershala Ali, who played Frank’s former chief of staff turned enemy Remy Danton, has predicted that Frank will be murdered by somebody close to him – but not Claire.
“Maybe at some point because he’s the one closest to him, my guess would be [Doug] Stamper,” he told The Wrap.
But Michael Kelly, who plays Doug, believes that his character is loyal to a fault and would never betray Frank.
