If I had been sitting in the chair it would have gone straight through my back
Janet Tuckett, 65, were blissfully watching television as one of the bullets burst through a nearby chair in the South Yorks property.
She described how the near-death incident had left her “terrified” inside her home of 30 years.
"I heard two loud bangs and a pot of flowers shattered on the windowsill,” she said.
“If I had been sitting in the chair it would have gone straight through my back and I would have been dead. I feel terrified in my own home."
The thug fired two shots into the house in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity
Husband James, 68, rushed down the stairs after hearing the commotion.
“I heard two loud bangs and a pot of flowers shattered on the windowsill,” he added.
“When we realised someone had shot at us we were gobsmacked. It has made us really fearful."
Police have told the couple they could have come under attack in a case of mistaken identity.
James Tuckett heard the commotion and run down stairs
Officers believe it may have been part of an organised hit between rival gangs who targeted the wrong house.
A police car has been parked outside the pair’s house since the shooting – but retired hospital admin worker James said he still feels unnerved.
“You just want to live a quiet life and never expect anything like this to happen. I'm in shock. I can't get over what has happened. It's really shaken me up."
A police car has now been stationed outside the couple's home
Detective Inspector John Yoxall from South Yorkshire Police confirmed the shooting could be linked to a similar incident that took place on January 24.
He said: "Thankfully, the two people inside the house were not injured during this incident.
"Enquiries are now under way to identify those responsible, and we believe the offenders were attempting to target a particular address.
"We are also exploring the possibility that this incident could be linked to other recent firearms-related incidents in Sheffield."
