Helicopter crash next to River Thames
Witnesses took to social media after claiming to have seen the aircraft spin and plummet to the ground in the outskirts of the city in Berkshire.
Local police confirmed the crash, which happened in the Caversham area of the city.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “At 5.44pm Thames Valley Police received a report that a helicopter had crashed in Caversham in Reading.
“It was also reported that the two occupants had safely got out of the private aircraft.
“Officers from Thames Valley Police and other emergency services are at the scene and a cordon is in place to ensure the safety of the public.
“The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been informed.”
Twitter user David Elliot posted a picture of what looks like mangled wreckage from the opposite bank of the river.
He wrote: “Just seen a helicopter crash!”
Luke Howroyd tweeted: “Helicopter crash landed by river just behind. Apparently no one hurt.
“Saw it come down and go into a spin, then lost site and heard the crash.”

The crash comes just days after a rescue helicopter crashed off the Irish coast, killing one person.

The Dublin-based aircraft was providing cover for another helicopter involved in an early morning rescue operation of a UK-registered fishing vessel.
The missing helicopter had been providing cover in the evacuation of a crewman, requiring urgent medical attention, from the British boat.
