James Duddridge said the Mr Bercow’s comments at a Reading University event were “wholly unacceptable” during a heated clash with Lib Dem MP Tom Brake on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
It comes after the Commons Speaker, who also came under fire for speaking out against Donald Trump, told students: “Personally, I voted to Remain. I thought it was better to stay in the European Union than not."
“He’s used the Speakers chair to pontificate on international affairs,” said Mr Duddridge.
“Clearly Tom Brake has not seen the video of Reading. He was miked up he knew he was being recorded, he knew he was overstepping the mark and this is wholly unacceptable. We expect our speaker to be impartial.

“In the House of Commons, he quite frequently calls his friends rather than being totally impartial but critically now, he can no longer be impartial given he’s expressed views so publicly and so clearly.”
He then called on Mr Bercow to stand down as Speaker for speaking on “policy issues”.
“He’s broken that rule, he’s broken his employment contract effectively with members of Parliament, he should resign and if he doesn’t, a vote of no confidence will go ahead,” added Mr Duddridge.
The response came after Mr Brake said he did not know if the Speaker was “aware he was being filmed”.

Tom Brake spoke out in defence of the House of Commons speaker
“It’s a simple question which he answered,” said the Lib Dem chief whip. “I think surely the acid test is whether in Parliament on that issue and other issues, whether he is able to deal with things in an even-handed manner.
“I would say on the issue of Brexit – clearly those in support of Brexit are getting, in my view as a Remain supporter, more than their fair share of time.”
He later admitted Mr Bercow’s style may not be to everyone’s taste and likened him to Marmite.
Mr Brake said: “The fact is John Bercow, whilst perhaps he has a style which may feel like Marmite to some, I think in practice if you look at the evidence of what he does in the chamber, he is balanced.”
