Pep Guardiola insists he wants to buy British
Guardiola signed just one homegrown player in the summer – splashing £49million on John Stones.
And the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach says he would love a team of English players but admits it would cost too much.
"I would like to have English players, but they are so expensive," the Manchester City boss said.
Pep Guardiola is desperate to up his homegrown contingent
"I would like to play with English players because they feel something special and sometimes that helps.
"But the market is the market and that's why the club is working long term with the academy with me or without me. Hopefully it will be with me because I'd like to enjoy these guys."
Guardiola is keen on signing Jack Wilshere from Arsenal and both Danny Rose and Kyle Walker from Tottenham, while Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford is said to be on his radar.
Guardiola has also sent Joe Hart out on loan to Torino, replacing him with Claudio Bravo who has since been dropped for Willy Caballero.
City could move up to second in the Premier League tomorrow with a win over Stoke, having won four game in a row since the draw with Tottenham at the Etihad.
