GTA 5 Online: Huge boost from Take-Two as new 2017 plans are revealed
GTA 5 ONLINE received a huge boost today from Take-Two Interactive, with the parent publisher answering some key questions on their 2017 plans for the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

GTA 5 Online looks set to continue getting quality DLCs for as long as Take-Two want people playing
It’s been suggested that GTA 5 Online is set to be slowly put out to pasture to make way for the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, later this year.
Sources familiar with how production of content for the game is put together have reported that Rockstar’s resources have been pulled away from Grand Theft Auto 5, meaning a slowdown in content.
It would also affect the depth of future GTA 5 Online update, with more reuse of scrapped ideas and features.
Rockstar’s latest update on the situation only went as far as confirming that new DLC drops were being planned for 2017, however, they didn’t go much further than that.
“Stay tuned for upcoming info on new updates in the works for GTA Online in 2017,” Rockstar revealed.
However, today’s earning call for Rockstar parent publisher Take-Two Interactive focused on the subject of RDR 2 and GTA 5 Online directly competing.

This is what CEO Strauss Zelnick had to say on the matter: “I'm fond of saying entertainment is an unusual animal, in that entertainment properties don't really compete with other entertainment properties.
"You never need entertainment. Entertainment is something that you want to have, but it's not a need to have. If nothing in the market appeals to you at some time, there is no reason to go and get it, and if multiple things appeal to you, avid consumers will consume all of those things.
"So, I don't think there is any competitive dynamic with any of our upcoming releases, apart from the fact that our success is driven by quality.
“So I think the success of [Red Dead Redemption 2], which is highly anticipated, will be driven by its quality, and I think that the ongoing success of Grand Theft Auto Online is driven by its extraordinary quality."

So by Zelnick’s own dissection of the situation, it would seem that GTA 5 Online stays popular due to the quality put into it by Rockstar, meaning that they will need to continue this pattern if they want to keep the current number of players engaged.
And to be honest, you could understand why Take-Two wouldn’t want to see GTA 5 Online drop off.
The game has now shipped 75m copies, and the company has confirmed that the likes of GTA V, GTA Online, Civilization VI, and NBA 2K17 are the titles with the best performing microtransactions, DLC, and virtual currency.
Recurrent consumer spending made up 39 percent of digital revenue and 20 percent of total revenue, if Rockstar could crack both GTA and Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer mode’s running side-by-side, it could paint a very rosy picture next year.
