Cher pays tribute to late husband Gregg Allman
The star lost his battle to liver cancer at his home in Savannah, Georgia, "surrounded by his family and friends," Michael Lehman, Allman's longtime manager and close friend, told CNN.
The musical icon will be buried at Rose Hill cemetery in Macon, GA, though a funeral date has not yet been set, Lehman added.
According to a statement on Allman’s official website, the Southern rock pioneer had been struggling with many health issues over the years.
In 2016, Allman cancelled several tour dates, before announcing in August that he was "under his doctor's care at the Mayo Clinic”.

Then in March 2017, he cancelled all upcoming appearances for the rest of the year.
Singer Cher, 71, to whom Allman was briefly married in the 1970s, paid tribute in a heartbreaking post on Twitter.
"I've tried … words are impossible," she wrote, before signing off: “Forever, Cooch.”

Allman was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and raised by his single mother in Florida after his father was shot dead.
He went on to form several groups with his elder brother Duane, who he made no secret of idolising, before they shot to fame as the Allman Brothers Band.
With massive releases, including Whipping Post, Ramblin Man and Midnight Rider, the duo defined what would become the genre Souther rock, and pave the way for heavyweights such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Marshall Tucker Band.
