Google has deleted one of the most useful features in Google Maps
Google Maps has discarded its Google Map Maker functionality, according to a new support page shared over the weekend.
The nifty feature was first introduced back in 2008 and allowed users to submit corrections to the details in Google Maps.
The powerful editing suite let Google Maps users build roads, correct terrain, landmarks and create buildings from scratch.
These new additions were then submitted to moderation queue, where Google Maps community members would decide whether the edits were correct.
If the updates to the map data were approved by the community, Google rolled them out worldwide to the latest production version of Google Maps.
However the nifty feature has now been dropped by the US search firm.
Google has decided to close its Google Maps Maker service
Granted, Google has migrated some of the functionality over to the desktop and mobile versions of the Google Maps app.
But there are still a number of features that were present in Maps Maker – like the ability to build roads and buildings from scratch – that have not made the jump to the core app.
Google is believed to have ditched the Map Maker functionality due to moderation concerns.
The app has caused the California-based company a number of headaches, including an image of the Android robot urinating on an Apple logo that managed to sneak through the moderation process.

In its new support page, Google writes "since 2008, the Google Map Maker community has edited and moderated millions of features to improve the Google Maps experience.
