Jose Mourinho told Frank Lampard he was the best in the world
After being appointed Chelsea boss in 2004, Mourinho came in and told Lampard he was the best midfielder in the world.
The chat took Lampard aback but he was desperate not to let his boss down.
The pair went on to lift two Premier League titles together in their time at Stamford Bridge with Lampard a key part of that side.
Lampard said: “Jose said that [I was the best in the world] to me.
“I certainly didn’t believe it at the time and I don’t know how much he did – but it was great man management.
“I took it at face value and thought ‘if my manager I’m working for is saying that, I’m going to have to show him that he’s right’.
“I didn’t want to be that player who let him down. I was quite conscientious and wanted to make him happy.
