Fox News’ Tucker Carlson blasted BuzzFeed’s Ben Smith for making the unverified dossier, which contains graphic claims of sexual acts documented by the Russians, public.
The host branded the Smith “disingenuous” and accused him of pedalling “activism” after publishing the collection of memos, believed to have been put together by a former British intelligence agent.
“I think you make some smart points,” conceded Carlson. “I’m for openness. I’m for transparency. But by setting yourself up as a champion of press freedom, you’re being slightly disingenuous.
“[Journalism] always presumes there’s always another side, there’s always another voice to be heard, there’s always a different perspective.
Tucker Carlson accused Buzzfeed of "activism"
I think you are hiding behind, what appear to be journalistic standards, when in fact, they're political imperatives
“You’re saying there isn’t and anyone who disagrees should be ignored – that’s a statement of activism isn’t it?”
Smith hit back and denied the claim and made the point of news organisation choosing not to cover racist views.
“I doubt that Fox News has a view that there are two sides on whether you should be racist or not,” he argued.
“A lot of news organisations don’t make explicit that implicit point that you’re not going to cover racists like they have a legitimate point of view. I don’t see why that’s controversial.”

Carlson said: ”Clearly, BuzzFeed News has a pretty open political agenda masquerading as journalism.
"I think you are hiding behind, what appear to be journalistic standards, when in fact, they're political imperatives."
The clash comes after Donald Trump called the allegations “fake news” on Twitter.
The leaked dossier claimed Mr Trump had “hired the presidential suite of the Ritz Carlton, where he knew President and Mrs Obama (whom he hated) had stayed on one of their official trips to Russia and defiled the bed where they slept”.
