Furious news anchor Tucker Carlson branded journalist Alex Mohajer “stupid” during the heated row broadcast on Fox News on Wednesday night.

Ever since Donald Trump defeated rival Hillary Clinton to become the next president, critics of the Republican have questioned his victory.

While Mr Trump triumphed in the all-important electoral college vote, Mrs Clinton won the popular vote by almost three million votes.

In an article published on the Huffington Post over the weekend, Mr Mohajer claimed Mrs Clinton was the rightful president of the US.

Shame on the Huffington Post for printing your garbage

He pointed out the former secretary of state won the popular vote as well as alluding to alleged Russian meddling in the election.

Mr Mohajer cites a 1987 article from the Executive Intelligence Review, a publication founded by political activist Lyndon LaRouche, which claims Mr Trump has been groomed by Russia since the 80s.

His piece concluded with calls for a “new election, no matter how outlandish or uncharted” adding it “is our civic duty”.

The pair argued for the full six minute broadcast on Wednesday night

Fox host Carlson attacked the journalist for alleging things he has no way of knowing were true.

"The idea that people take a crackpot like you – who would throw something out there with no evidence – is distressing," Mr Carlson said.

“And shame on the Huffington Post for printing your garbage."

The pair went back and forth in their shouting match which lasted over six minutes.

The Huffington Post writer claimed Hillary Clinton was the legitimate president

The Huffington Post writer attacked Carlson for his previous work on an American opinion-based website.

"You were the editor-in-chief of The Daily Caller, which for a decade, called into question Barack Obama's legitimacy because of his race," Mr Mohajer said.

After Carlson denied the allegations, Mr Mohajer continued: "Are you an illegitimate journalist?

“Your own website ran some pretty racist terrible junk”, he added but was unable to come up with any specific examples when challenged.

The interview concluded asMr Carlson said he could not “help but laugh” at Mr Mohajer’s defence of the article.

Police across the US are preparing for a record number of anti-Trump protests ahead of the president-elect’s inauguration on Friday.

The biggest demonstration is expected to take place in Washington on Saturday, with as many as 200,000 people and celebrities taking the street as part of the Women’s March.

Organisers argue that Mr Trump’s rhetoric during the election campaign has “insulted, demonised, and threatened many of us”.
