The Derby County goalkeeper found himself on the bench for the Reds when they recorded a memorable victory over AC Milan in the Champions League final.
Jerzy Dudek started the match, and Carson, who only joined from Leeds at the turn of the year, made a surprise appearance in Rafa Benitez's matchday squad with Kirkland ruled out through injury.
Kirkland made four appearances in Liverpool's European campaign that season, compared to Carson's one, but the former didn't accept his team-mate's kind gesture after the match.

When we got the medals, I tried to give mine to Chris
Scott Carson
“When we got the medals, I tried to give mine to Chris," Carson told The Guardian.
“He played more games in the group stages than me. So I felt that he deserved it more.
“But Chris, as anyone who knows him will say, is a really nice lad and he said: 'No. You were on the bench, you played your part as well.'

“I'm delighted I've got it, but a medal is a lot more valuable to you if you played. For me, Just to witness that night was good enough."
Kirkland made 26 league appearances during a five-year spell on Merseyside, while Carson managed just four between 2005 and 2008 before joining West Brom.
