Nigel Farage has poked fun at MEP Seb Dance with his own sign

The former Ukip leader was referencing a sign the London MEP held during a speech by Farage in Brussels earlier this month.

The sign, which Mr Dance held up in full view of cameras, said: "He's lying to you".

Scrawled on the sheet of paper was an arrow pointing to Mr Farage, who carried on speaking obliviously.

At an event in Stoke this evening, Nigel Farage got his own back.

In front of a delighted audience, he held up a sign handed to him from a member of the crowd which said "he's not lying to you".

Paul Nuttall, Mr Farage's successor as Ukip leader, watched on at an event for his by-election campaign.

Mr Nuttall is strongly tipped to win Ukip's second parliamentary seat at the upcoming Stoke-on-Trent by-election.

Just hours earlier the pair had been egged by a youth who then fled the scene.

MEP Bill Etheridge said the petty attack was "typical" of the party's opponenets.

He told Express.co.uk: "This is typical of the left; they have no arguments left so they resort to violence.

"They will learn that they cannot intimidate the legitimate voice of the British people. The more they attack us the more resolute we will be.

"The people of Stoke want us to be here and we will be ramping up the campaign as voting day draws closer"
