Sir Bill said: “They are depriving themselves of the trust of the other citizens who they claim to represent. They are effectively going in the wrong direction.”
Mr Davis, MP for Haltemprice and Howden, said he would be using his influence to the full while britain remained inside the EU.
He said: “We are going to be full members until the moment we leave and that means responsible members.
“That means we will exercise our influence in what we think is the best interest of the European Union until the moment we leave, because we want to see the European Union strong and stable and effective.

Mr Tusk has been condemned by the prime minister of Poland over an open letter the European Council leader penned to EU leaders.
Beata Szydło told a press conference she did not agree with Mr Tusk's letter, claiming it was a sign Mr Tusk did not wish for any changes within the EU and ignored Brexit.
She said: "It encourages me in the belief, that Donald Tusk is representing the political elite that brought crisis upon the European Union."
